WordPress My Pictures Widget

After the big succes of the “My Twitpics Plugin” I decide to extend the plugin and support other services, thats why the plugin is renamed to “My Pictures Widget” on april 11th. The My Pictures Widget allows you to show your recently added items to Twitpic.com and Mobypicture.com on your WordPress powered website. This simple widget automatically displays them in your sidebar. If your theme don’t support widgets you could add some custom code.

Currently supported services

  • Twitpic
  • Mobypicture

Features

  • Simple
  • Customizable title
  • Only twitter username required
  • You could change the number of photos
  • Link to pictures on/off
  • Change picture size
  • Change margin
  • Border modification

For more information about the installation and to download the plugin you could check out the WordPress.org plugin page. Feedback and ideas are welcome in the comments of this post.

Known issues

  • Some providers don’t allow php scripts to use the “file_get_contents” function, the plugin would not work in that case, I’m working on a fix.

In the next update

  • Save pictures in the WordPress database in order to let pages load (a lot) faster
  • Better thumbnail support
  • Flickr support
  • Show more information like date and other available details
  • Lightbox
  • Support more than one widget
  • Use multiple accounts in one view
  • Show comments
  • Update suggestions?! Let me know in a reaction (below)

Because this plugin is a hobby project I do not know when the next update will be available, I try to update every few months. If you want to contribute, contact me!

Here you could find the information and comments of the “My Twitpics” plugin.

Heyyyy !? There’s a problem in your plugin new version. It can only display your own twitpic images instead of mine!!! :)

  • Pepijn 11 april 2010 om 22:41

I’m sorry for the bug in the Twitpic function, I’m releasing a bugfixed version right now!

Hey I’m having an issue since your last update, I am using the new code to display the images on my homepage not as a widget and I get this error

Fatal error: Call to undefined function curl_init() in /home/otakucomplex/www/wp-content/plugins/my-twitpics/mypictures.php on line 81

  • Pepijn 12 april 2010 om 12:27

Later today there will be an update available. Thanks for letting me know!

  • Wilcootje.nl 12 april 2010 om 23:15

Version 1.2.2 solved my problems. Thanks for your effort and time!

  • Jason 17 april 2010 om 04:10

I know I’ve said this before, and at the time there was a good reason it couldn’t be done, but I’ll mention it again… it would be nice if I could place two widgets of this plugin in my sidebar and display Twitpics for two different Twitter accounts.

  • Pepijn 17 april 2010 om 12:34

I’m working on a way to make that possible, I will put that functionality in the next update!

  • Matoo 18 april 2010 om 02:25

Thanks for the update! Works like a charm now. ;)

  • Brian Lawson 20 april 2010 om 15:51

Great plugin…I’ve used a couple of different ones and have now standardized on yours for my kids’ websites. Thanks!

I see you’re responding to feature requests here, so I’ll add my wishlist:

    1) Include the comment/text from the tweet that had the twitpic (twitpic includes it just below the picture…not sure how to get it from the API)

    2) Include an option to post the date or “X days ago” that the twitpic was taken.

  • Robin Koorn 22 april 2010 om 13:12

    Hi Pepijn,

Ik krijg de afbeeldingen van mijn twitpic niet te zien.
Heb je enig idee waardoor dat komt?
Ik heb de widget geprobeerd en ook handmatig maar niets schijnt te werken.
    http://www.robinkoornwebdesign.nl/wordpress/

    bedankt alvast.

I’m sorry ;).

  • Sylvain 2 mei 2010 om 18:05

Very very great plugin, nice work.

And I think like Brian Lawson : the possibility to include the tweet which comes with the picture will be awesome !

  • Kat 8 mei 2010 om 10:25

Desperately waiting for that bugfix, cause it messes up my blog. Honestly I wish i hadnt updated the plugin. :(

  • Pepijn 8 mei 2010 om 11:40

Hi Kat, Because it’s hard to make the plugin work for every webhost I’ve decided to leave the plugin as it is now. When I’ve got a decent way to fix it I’m really gona do that. Till that time you could download the older versions here: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/my-twitpics/download/. Sorry for the inconvenience.

EDIT: I see what’s the problem on you’re blog: the function name has changed to MyPictures(). More information is available here: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/my-twitpics/installation/.

  • Kat 11 mei 2010 om 11:42

Thanks for the instant help :) Works perfectly now. Wont complain and rant ever again. :D

    Hey there,

I seem to have the problem, that my latest twitpics are not displayed in the widget. Had this issue with some very old version and with the new one, so I guess it’s something to do with the twitpic-feed. Do you have any ideas?

Thanks in advance. And thanks for a very nice piece of software!

  • Pepijn 8 juni 2010 om 00:06

I’ve looked at you’re website. The problem is solved already?

  • Toba 9 juni 2010 om 13:19

Yeah, seems so. Without me doing anything. Is that somekind of cache-effect or twitpic-delay-thingy?

Well, never mind, thanks anyway :)

  • Acex 25 juni 2010 om 13:52

    Works nice.
Could you write, pls, how to include
getThumb in RSS Widget to display pics with description, author and date.
    Will be very appreciated.

  • Pepijn 25 juni 2010 om 17:14

Twitpic itself has a feed: http://twitpic.com/photos/{username}/feed.rss
Replace {username} with you’re own username. Good luck.

  • Acex 26 juni 2010 om 16:45

    Thanks.
Wordpress RSS Widget(using http://twitpic.com/photos/{username}/feed.rss) displays description, author and date but no pics (or only I see so). How to improve this to show pics?

  • Pepijn 26 juni 2010 om 18:34

    Use this plugin ;).

  • Acex 27 juni 2010 om 07:13

Ok. How to display description, author and date with this plugin?

  • Pepijn 27 juni 2010 om 12:38

Thats currently not possible, in a later version I will put that functionality. In the meantime good luck with finding a solution.

  • Acex 27 juni 2010 om 14:29

    Thanks (expecting your new version)

  • Matt Taylor 2 juli 2010 om 12:21

    Hi Pepijn,
The plugin is great although I’m having problems with it viewing in IE8. Has anyone else had this problem and is there a line of code I can stick in to make it work in IE8.
Currently using it as a live updating picture banner which is cool!

    Matt

  • Pepijn 2 juli 2010 om 14:15

Hi Matt, I’m going to fix this problem in a next version. If you have any knowledge of CSS you can try to fix it using the .mypictures class (all the pictures have this class). Otherwise you have to wait till I’ve looked into this bug.

  • Tina 3 juli 2010 om 16:28

    Pepjin,

Which part on the css I wil change? I only edited this part….

    file_get_contents(“http://www.twitpic.com/photos/”.$pokerfulltime.”/feed.rss”);

do I need to change all (usernames) to my real username?

  • Pepijn 4 juli 2010 om 10:45

Tina, That’s not the css. After installing the plugin you have to go to the widget pannel in WordPress and install the widget. In most cases everything is working well then.

I recommend you to reinstall the plugin. If something is not working let me know.

  • Acex 22 juli 2010 om 13:07

Hi. Could it display a different twitpic id in different posts? If ‘yes’ – how to set it?
    I’ll be very appreciated.

  • Pepijn 22 juli 2010 om 15:59

Not jet, I’m working on some new functionality comming asap.

  • Acex 31 augustus 2010 om 16:35

Hi. Have you any idea why this plugin works at some server but doesn’t work at other (table, any additional words are showing but rss data – not)?

  • Pepijn 31 augustus 2010 om 20:15

Some servers don’t allow some of the used functions, I’m working on a updated version.

  • Acex 1 september 2010 om 07:35

Thanks. What should I ask the server administrator to enable to let this plugin work?

  • Pepijn 1 september 2010 om 17:55

In the most cases it’s the “file_get_contents” PHP function what’s giving the trouble. Otherwise it is possible that the file at Twitpic is corrupt, I’m working on an update for that too.

  • Acex 2 september 2010 om 12:51

Thanks again. But on the one server this plugin works perfectly in contrast to the other server. Is it possible that some differences in the settings of servers can influence the work of this plugin? If “yes” – what settings we need to change (set up) on the other server to help this plugin works as well as on the first server ?

  • Pepijn 2 september 2010 om 23:44

I Don’t know exactly but it has a relation to the loading of the content of other sites from the server.
At the moment my advice is to wait on the update, I’m sorry.

  • Acex 3 september 2010 om 11:17

    Thnks. I’ll be waiting…

  • häger 17 oktober 2010 om 14:19

    Hi nice plugin
works fine for me, but is it possible that the comment added to the twitpic appear on the added foto??

  • Pepijn 17 oktober 2010 om 16:39

I’ve added that idea to the list, when the next update will be ready is hard to say, I hope dec/jan.

  • Daniel Tyson 19 juni 2011 om 02:04

Would love to know if you can add the multiple widget support so multiple Twitpic streams can be shown. Cheers.
